Chinese New Year also known as the Spring Festival is the major festival in China. Chinese New Year dates back to the Shang Dynasty (17th - 11th century BC). The date of the Spring Festival varies each year due to the Lunar Calendar which is based on lunar phases and solar solstices. This year Chinese New Year will take place on February 8, 2016! Chinese New Year is about family and reunion with celebrations last two weeks ending with the Lantern Festival.

Spring Festival is the most important Chinese traditional festival. Spring Festival in China is like Christmas in Western.It start from the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar and lasts 15 days from then on. Spring Festival has a history over 4000 years and consists of a series of celebrations.

During the Spring Festival, China's Han ethnic and other minorities will hold various activities to celebrate.These activities are designed for worship deities and ancestral shrine, blow away the cobwebs and meet the millennium blessing, pray for a good harvest.The Chinese New Year activities is abundant and colorful,with strong ethnic characteristics.Influenced by Chinese culture, countries belong to Chinese cultural circle are also celebrating the Chinese New Year.

The atmosphere of Chinese New Year is warm, there are firecrackers, lion and dragon dance performances in the streets.The buildings are decorate with bright red lanterns. It’s the time people visit their relatives, have a great dinner and enjoy the warm reunion.
