Five Colored Rice
The 5 colored rice is dyed into numerous colors with the use of healthy vegetable dyes. This includes using leaves, flowers, grass and roots. The 5 colored rice has been made famous by the Miao and Zhuang ethnic minority who prepare the rice for festivals. The rice has a history of 800 years and was first introduced by the Buyi people. The rices is usually dyed into red, blue, orange, yellow and black. By eating the rice it symbolizes good fortune and good harvest.
