There are several ethnic minorities that can be found in Aba Prefecture. However, the predominant ethnic minority residents are the Tibetan and Qiang minority groups. Tibetans account for approximately 57.3% of the population in Aba Prefecture with the Qiangs accounting for 18.6%.
Buddhism in Aba Prefecture
Buddhism is the main religion practiced in Aba Prefecture. The Buddhist culture can be seen with the elaborate Tibetan Buddhist temples. One of the most notable symbols of Tibetan Buddhism in Aba Prefecture is Kirti Gompa (Gerdeng Monastery), the monastery was established in 1472 and has an estimated 2,500 monks.
