Mandalay is the second largest city and the last royal capital of Myanmar. Located 716 km north of Yangon on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River. The city has a population of 1,225,553 (2014 census). Mandalay is the economic hub of northern Myanmar and considered the center of the country's culture.
During World War II, most of the buildings in Mandalay were destroyed, only the Ancient Imperial City and towers remain. The city has various ancient relics such as Da Flynn Castle, temples and the British Government Building. All these ancient relics embody the city’s glorious past and the rich flavor of history and culture.
Travel in Mandalay to visit the Buddhist sites and appreciate the ancient culture and enjoy Myanmar’s pastoral scenery. Mandalay is not as big as Yangon, however, it is more convenient for tourists to get around.
